The adventures of the Evans Family! We are a family of 5 of Orthodox Christians that live in Galveston, Texas.
Our Eastern Orthodox Baptism
We were officially received into the Eastern Orthodox Church via Baptism and Chrismation on Forgiveness Sunday, the day before the beginning of Great Lent 2023. We were baptized at Saints Constantine & Helen Serbian Orthodox Church under the care of Father Thomas Colyandro.
An enormous thank you to our Godparents Adam and Jessica Kelly and their beautiful children for their tremendous support and for filming this special video.

A Protestant Discussion about Eastern Orthodoxy (Part 2 of 2) Dietra and I recently began a vlog series here on our channel where we decided we were going to take our family to several different historical churches in our area. But following some of these recent experiences, we decided that, in addition, we would sit down and have a legitimate conversation about the churches we encountered that...

Glory to God, may He bless you with many years! ☦️☦️
I was raised Greek Orthodox, I went to catholic and Lutheran schools as a child. In my twenties and thirties I went deep into the new age. Things became very dark. Something struck me to pray to mother Mary. My 5 year old son had even started calling out to her during his night terrors. I would pray to Mary as a mother, I would ask her to help me as a mother, like I would my own mum. I don’t have a mother who can help me with children or give me advice. After a few weeks of praying to her I started praying to Jesus. It was just something that came naturally. I was then led to read the bible and I was saved and delivered out of the new age. Within 3 weeks of reading the bible I started attending a Protestant - Pentecostal church. I still to this day believe praying to Mary led me to being saved. She was an intercessor between me and Jesus. I am now being led back into Orthodoxy
@@Eva_Hope such a beautiful story, and it is still being written!
Hi, I am also a Protestant looking into orthodoxy in Australia. I was raised Greek Orthodox but it is still a hard transition after understanding the bible from a Protestant perspective. I was always advices to back every prophetic dream, prophecy, or word of knowledge with scripture. If God doesn’t give you a scripture to support it then it’s not from God.
@@Eva_Hope May God bless your journey. 🙏🏽❤️☦️
Thank you. Your video has given me a different perspective on solo scripture.

Hey brother, I’m not Orthodox but I just wanted to reach out and say God bless you and your beautiful family! Also, since this baptism you guys haven’t posted any vlogs.. does that have anything to do with you entering the Orthodox Church?
such a kind priest; i have a question though: how are the neck, ears and collarbone anointed for veiled women? or is it not necessary?
Glory to God and welcome home! May our Good God protect you as you fully enter the struggle.

I recommend the Serbian Orthodox Church in Galveston. I don't know if this is the one here? But it was a Church Supported by the Most Pious St. Tsar Nicholas II, Emperor of the Holy Rus. And they have great veneration for the Saint there. Sts. Constantine and Helen is the name.

Hi there! I came across your video today while searching "Orthodox Baptism." We will be baptized into the Church on Lazarus Sunday after being Protestants for half a century. We're in Houston at St Joseph Antiochian Orthodox. Our catechism was a required full year, so really looking forward to being baptized! God is drawing many into His Church! P.S. We lived in Galveston for 6 years, and hubby went to PA school at UTMB, so it has a fond place in our hearts. God bless and good strength!
Praise God! I was actually just up there for the Lenten Retreat with Father Josiah Trenham. Welcome to the body of Christ! Let’s stay connected. May God fill you all with his presence. 🙏🏽☦️💀🕊️🔥 SERAPHIM (David)
@@OrthodoxEvans We were also at that retreat. So incredible.
P.S. My husband remembers seeing you all!
@@allisonroorda7937 what a small world! 😊
Keep the Daybreak mission but transition it into orthodoxy. There is a UA-camt, Capturing Christianity, who is coming into the Catholic church this Easter and I'm certain he's taking his former protestant work on his Capturing Christianity channel and transitioning it to a Catholic apostulate. I love you, Evans Family. I am so proud of you. Entering into the Church Jesus created is courageous. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph be with you 🙏
Thank you Ediana for all of your love and support during our transition ❤️🙏🏽
Texas is Awesome and Galveston is cool!.....and Houston has the Best food in the World.
Unfortunately, our microphones weren’t working for the live broadcast. Make sure to listen to the high quality version of this same podcast here: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/daybreak-collective/id1530752307?i=1000598771104
The filioque is more than just a Papal authority issue. The Orthodox reject the theology behind the filioque. I won't bother explaining it here but St. Photios wrote "The Mystagogy of the Holy Spirit" & St. Gregory Palamas wrote the "Apodictic Treatises on the Procession of the Holy Spirit" in defense of the Father being the sole source of the Spirit's procession. If you want to know more then see Dr. Beau Branson on Monarchial Trinitarianism.
I lived in Galveston for a few years, but Orthodoxy was off my radar back then. Very cool. ☦️
Where do you live now?
@@OrthodoxEvans Ohio. I work in Toledo.
@@dustinneely Good old Ohio. Nice. Thanks for stopping by and listening to our journey.. a lot of what was posted months ago, as I'm sure you can tell, is already outdated since we've become catechumens. Early on, we wanted to check out a few different historical traditions but we never left Orthodoxy!
As a former Pentecostal I relate to this so much. I highly recommend reading "The Orthodox Veneration of the Mother of God" by St. John Maximovitch. ☦️
I’ve read it! It’s certainly an Orthodox classic. Thank you 🙏🏽 -David
You'll love it here. I've been here my entire life, and work here as well at UTMB Hospital, coming up on my 18th year here. Can't imagine living outside of Tx.
My spiritual Fr explained to our class why we call the Theotokos the Ark. What was in the Ark? The rod that budded showing the chosen priest, the 10 commandments and the manna. So in correlation Theotokos contained the one high priest, the one who gave the law and the bread of life itself.
A great introduction to understanding the Orthodox Faith is a few lectures by Fr Joseph Copeland on Patristic Nectar Publications called “Divine Energy”.
Thank you for the recommendation. 🙏🏽
@@OrthodoxEvans your journey is super interesting. Looking forward to your guys next discussion.
The wife and I were considering moving to Galveston but after looking at the crime rates got a bit worried. So few places these days close to large cities with low crime rates.
Lmao you won’t ever find a big city with low crime rates. Especially not in this shitty country. My best opinion is too but security cameras and a gun lol
@@iamnumber4ization Low is a relative term. Yes all big cities have crime but you have to admit some have more than others.
Just an idea. Have a reaction video to a very highly recommended video about the Orthodox explanation of Grace. WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE! The lecture is on Patristic Nectar Publications in the lecture section called Divine Energy by Fr Joseph Copeland. Would love to see your reaction/commentary throughout the lecture. Historically, the term "Greek Orthodox" has been used to describe all Eastern Orthodox churches, since the term "Greek" can refer to the heritage of the Byzantine Empire. During the first eight centuries of Christian history, most major intellectual, cultural, and social developments in the Christian Church took place in the Byzantine Empire or its sphere of influence, where the Greek language was widely spoken and used for most theological writings. The empire's capital, Constantinople, was an early important center of Christianity, and its liturgical practices, traditions, and doctrines were gradually adopted throughout Eastern Orthodoxy, still providing the basic patterns of contemporary Orthodoxy. Thus, Eastern Orthodox came to be called "Greek" Orthodox in the same way that Western Christians came to be called "Roman" Catholic. However, the appellation "Greek" was abandoned by the Slavic and other Eastern Orthodox churches as part of their peoples' national awakenings, beginning as early as the 10th century A.D. Thus, by the early 21st century, generally only those churches most closely tied to Greek or Byzantine culture and ethnicity were called "Greek Orthodox" in common parlance. Greek Orthodoxy has also been defined as a religious tradition rooted in preserving the Greek identity.
To be clear, the Bishop of Rome (ie the Pope) declared himself to be infallible and over all other bishops (in direct violation of the Canons). As a result, the filioque was inserted into the western rite. The Orthodox Church did NOT split from Rome. The patriarchate of Rome split from all the other patriarchates. There’s a reason the term “papal Protestant” gets thrown around in Orthodox circles.
Thank you for that! That helps.
I love hearing David thirst for the Eucharist! So inspiring! Thank you guys for these videos! Praying for you all!
When you think of a person who you love dearly and kiss his/her picture/photo, do you make it/that person an idol? When you know you are perishing and you are about to die, the judge is about to make a verdict and you do not want it to be a death sentence and you ask an defense attorney to save you from death, is it wrong? Do you really believe that the defense attorney will be the one who will make the decision? When we ask the saints and Theotokos to save us, we ask for their intercession for us, that is all.
Agreed!
